A suitable procedure to choose antimicrobials as controlling agents in fermentations performed by bacteria BJM
Oliveira,Romulo C.; Gomez,José G.C.; Torres,Bayardo B.; Bueno Netto,Celso L.; Silva,Luiziana F. da.
This work evaluated the influence of nitrofurantoin, erythromycin and streptomycin at 50, 25 and 12,5% of the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) on maximum specific growth rate (µmax) and specific polymer accumulation rate (µPHB) of Alcaligenes eutrophus, considered resistant to those antimicrobials. Nitrofurantoin strongly affected µmax even at 50% MIC. Streptomycin moderately affected µmax only at 50%MIC. Nitrofurantoin showed the most harmful effect on µPHB when 50% MIC was applied and erythromycin was not harmful.

Antimicrobial Resistance and genes associated to the host-microbe interaction of Pasteurella multocida isolates from swine in Western Cuba Rev Salud Anim.
Espinosa,Ivette; Báez,M; Vichi,J; Martínez,Siomara.
Pasteurella multocida is an important veterinary pathogen that causes a range of animal diseases, including fowl cholera, hemorrhagic septicemia in cattle and atrophic rhinitis in swine. P. multocida is generally recognized as a secondary invader contributing substantially to respiratory diseases in pigs by aggravation of lung lesions. Five capsule serogroups are routinely identified in P. multocida (A, B, D, E, and F) and each is generally associated with, but not completely restricted, to a specific host. A total of 16 isolates of Pasteurella multocida capsular genotype A and two isolates capsular genotype D were characterized for their susceptibilities to 10 antibiotics and the presence of four genes for virulence factors associated to adherence. The...

Penha Filho,Rafael Antonio Casarin; Ferreira,Joseane Cristina; Kanashiro,Ana Maria Iba; Darini,Ana Lúcia da Costa; Berchieri Junior,Angelo.
ABSTRACT: Salmonella Gallinarum (S. Gallinarum) and Salmonella Pullorum (S. Pullorum) are poultry host-specific, agents of fowl typhoid and pullorum disease, respectively. These biovars cause septicemic infections, resulting in high mortality. Outbreaks are frequently reported worldwide, causing losses due to the elimination of infected flocks and treatments. The use of antimicrobial agents is frequent in poultry farms to prevent or treat gastrointestinal infections. In the present research it was evaluated the antimicrobial susceptibility of 50 S. Gallinarum and S. Pullorum isolates, from outbreaks that occurred between 1987 to 1991 and 2006 to 2013. The comparison of the susceptibility profiles showed that all isolates were susceptible to β-lactams. All...
